As we straddle the seasons, it’s good to have a way to update your clothes, making the transition a budget friendly one. As spring and summer inevitably give way to fall and winter, try these updates and tricks to stretch the seasonality of your staple wardrobe.
Collars are Easy Additions
A Peter Pan collar can soften the hardest sweater or vest. The soft little rounded corners of a Peter Pan collar compliment the rough and tailored fabrics and textures of the colder months of the year. Everyone looks good with a Peter Pan color at their neck. Don’t worry about finding a shirt. Use a dickey or make one from and old shirt or charity shop find. Fur collars are also back this year, although bolder and bigger is the name of the game.
Trousers, Not Pants
Want a quick way to look perfectly stylish. Add a pair of wide legged, cuffed trousers in men’s wear fabric. These lovely, flowing trousers look good on most people. Love the look but need to avoid cuffs? Skip the cuffs; these pants will still look up to the minute and your legs will look much longer.
Checkout Checks
Checks on checks, big and bigger are a huge part of what’s coming this fall. Buy or make a skirt, incorporating at least two different sizes and styles of checks. Don’t be afraid to add a checked scarf or even a jacket. The whole thing works very well if you stay in a monochromatic color scheme. Adding a new dress, sheath or tunic, over black leggings or standing alone makes a great statement, especially if it is lemon yellow.
Cold months bring out the best in fashion.
